Deep Tissue Massage Therapy is similar to Swedish massage but focuses on applying deeper pressure to help release chronic muscle tension. This type of massage targets the deeper layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia, which is the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones, and joints. The goal of deep tissue massage is to realign and release tension in these deeper muscle layers. It’s especially effective for addressing chronic aches and pains, such as a stiff neck, upper back pain, lower back issues, tight leg muscles, and sore shoulders. During a deep tissue massage, the therapist works to break down adhesions (tight or bound areas in the muscle) to alleviate pain and restore normal movement. They use massage oil and apply direct, deep pressure to the muscles. For the massage to be effective, the muscles need to be relaxed, allowing the therapist to reach and work on the deeper muscle layers.
